Is Your “Health Food” Making You Unhealthy?

Dear Friend,

What if your “health food” is what’s making you unhealthy?

Take this Kind Bar for example. For years, during my presentations to companies or schools, or when life coaching clients asked, “What’s a healthy snack?” besides fruit, I’d say, “A Kind Bar.” Because you can actually see real nuts in it.

But over time, the ingredients changed.

My Happy Spot

The red circles highlight ingredients that could be part of the reason why you don’t look and feel the way you want, even when choosing a “healthier” food:

• Natural Flavor — Can legally contain over 100 individual chemical components, including solvents, preservatives, emulsifiers, and additives.

• Soy Lecithin — Often from genetically modified soy and highly processed. Some researchers have explored links between excessive soy/isoflavone intake and hormone/gut balance.

• Glyphosate — A pesticide that has been found in some KIND products and is related to billions of dollars in legal claims connected to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer cases.

• Palm Kernel Oil — Highly processed oil that may increase inflammation (the cause of disease) and negatively impact heart health.

• Glucose Syrup — Rapidly absorbed processed sugar that can elevate blood sugar quickly = inflammation.

• Rice Flour — Highly refined carbohydrate that digests quickly and may contribute to blood sugar spikes = inflammation.

• Alkalized Cocoa — Processing can reduce some of cocoa’s natural antioxidants and beneficial compounds.

• Sugar — Excess added sugar can spike blood sugar, increase cravings, and promote weight gain.

What bothers me most is that so many well-intentioned people, perhaps you, go out of their way to eat healthier and feed their children better, only to be misled by companies using marketing words like “natural,” “healthy,” or “better for you” on highly processed foods.

It would be such a shame after all your hard work, trying to be healthier, choosing a perceived healthier product, that the additives in those products were what were causing some of the symptoms that you were trying to cure in the first place.

The easiest cure is to eat whole foods at least 80% of the time, and you will literally eat away the harmful effects of some of these additives.

The healthiest people on the planet typically eat foods like:

• Organic vegetables and fruit
• Organic chicken and pork
• Grass-fed beef, butter, and lamb
• Wild fish
• Fermented foods — plain yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut
• Herbs and spices
