This is how powerful food is…

Background- I get annoyed when I don’t feel good.

I also hear this from my clients who try to eat healthy, exercise, and attempt to manage their stress, yet still don’t look and feel the way they want.

If you can relate, there’s a good chance the food you’re eating is affecting you negatively. Yes, certain foods (seed oils, pesticides, refined sugars, hormones, antibiotics, “natural” flavors, artificial sweeteners/colors, and so on) have the immediate effect of making you feel worse in many ways. Food is that powerful.

How to get back on track?

Eat WWOFLES (Whole, Wild, Organic, Fresh, Local, Seasonal, Ethnic)

  • Plant Foods- Beans (all), greens (dandelions), roots (onions), tubers (potatoes), fruit (berries)

    • Organic, pesticide free, non GMO, fresh or naturally preserved/fermented, seasonal, local

  • Animal Protein        

    • Wild fish, grass fed beef & lamb, organic chicken & pork, pastured eggs    

  • Fats        

    • Extra virgin olive oil (single source, single origin), grass fed butter, avocados    

  • Fermented Foods (must be refrigerated in supermarket/home)        

    • Sauerkraut, pickles, kimchee, kombucha, raw cheese (parmigiano reggiano), Feta, miso, tempeh    

  • Herbs, Spices, Etc.        

    • Garlic, parsley, mint, oregano, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon (of course there are many more)

Caution. If you’re eating any of the items below, they have been shown to cancel out the health benefits of the foods above, are linked to bloating, disease, stress, anxiety, and can stop you from losing weight. (Remember, don’t shoot the messenger :-0)    

  • Sugar- flour, bread, crackers, cookies, drinks, protein bars    

  • Seed oils (canola, sunflower, safflower, soy, corn, rice bran (which is what Chipotle uses)    

  • “Natural flavors” (can contain 100 chemicals)    

  • Artificial coloring, sweeteners, preservatives, dyes     

  • Others- high fructose corn syrup, nitrites/nitrates, sodium benzoate, MSG, avoid lab created plant proteins

Don’t forget the power of exercise to improve your mood- endorphins (painkillers), neurotransmitters (serotonin – happy hormone), human growth hormone, testosterone, cancer, killing T cells, and so on.
